WHY CAN’T I BE YOU? VOL VII: CARLOTTA ODDI

My latest sartorial girl crush is Carlotta Oddi, major babe and assistant to tits-mental Vogue Nippon editor Anna della Russo. Stylistically, (and for her sake, I hope mentally, have you seen the ‘Fashion Shower’ video?) the polar opposite of AdR, Carlotta’s outfits encompass all of my favourite things – heavy menswear and streetwear influences, prints, I also love that unlike a lot of high-profile streetstyle favourites, she’s loyal to a piece and not precious about piece repetition – for example, her Opening Ceremony varsity, and Balenciaga leather biker, which when I was considering buying it, upon trying it on made me look more like a badly wrapped barrel, SAD TIMES.

LIP-SYNC FOR YOUR LIFE

This post is basically an excuse to combine three not-so-secret obsessions of mine – RuPaul’s Drag Race, gifs and karaoke. I actually love karaoke, there’s something about public humiliation mixed with a delusional sense of grandeur that really appeals to me when I’m drunk. I’ve also found that  it’s particularly fun for everyone else if you’re having a really shit night and you do Hurt by Johnny Cash. Anyway, luckily karaoke is a hobby endorsed by ~fashin~, here’s a look at the best and worst efforts.

IT'S TIME TO LIPSYNC FOR YOUR LIFE

Here’s my fave, Carine Roitfeld and the interminably insane Anna Della Russo giving amazing ‘mum at a wedding’ karaoke vibes. Not my mum at a wedding, obviously, my mum looks like Saruman. I really want to know what they were singing, I’m guessing it wasn’t Fashion Shower.

When this video came out, I probably watched it about five times every day for a month. Emanuelle Alt doing WHAM, with a little help from Anja Rubik and a boatload of other Vogue Paris regulars. What’s not to love. This video served as an amazing announcement of Emanuelle’s taking over from Carine Roitfeld as Editor in Chief at Vogue Paris after she was sacked, thus ruining Vogue Paris for ever.

Another fashion x karaoke crossover features Jessica Stam off of every show/campaign ever, and Coco Rocha off of The Face and irish dancing. Here’s a great example of middle-class white-girl Eminem enthusiasm

And finally, here’s an assortment of VS Angels including Miranda Kerr, Doutzen Kroes and Candice Swanepoel attempting Christmas classic, Deck The Halls. This isn’t so much Deck The Halls as Cries Of Pain.

THIS IS FOR LOVERS

I love a creepy/unintentionally hilarious documentary about freaks, and Channel 4 are usually pretty good at delivering. Fresh off the cringing, shuddering heels of my faves, 15 Stone Babies and My Fat Fetish, came ‘Dogging Tales’. For a documentary about rough couples shagging in a cold forest off a motorway, I wasn’t expecting it to be so ~artsy~, it’s more like a weirdly tense film than a standard ‘ha-ha-weirdos’ documentary. Also, a particular highlight was the participants all wearing animal masks reminiscent of those in the Anna Sui AW11 show:

This is Les. I don’t know what freaked me out more, his love of dogging, his having 18 children, or the fact he was willing to be filmed using Lynx.

This is Les’ girlfriend, who is quite clearly on the verge of some sort of breakdown. I’m not sure how much her eyeshadow would really show up in headlights but A+ for effort.

World’s Happiest Doggers via Anna Sui.

The most obvious example of fashion endorsing a love for the great outdoors is  Steven Meisel’s 2008 editorial for V magazine (originally refused by Vogue Italia), simply entitled ‘Dogging’:

BRAND FOCUS VOL I: CAST OF VICES

Recently in my never-ending quest for things to spend money on, I stumbled across Cast of Vices, a right nice accessories brand that tick all my accessories boxes – big chains, leather and an appreciation for a rude slogan. (I realise these three things make me sound like a foul mouthed pervert, and this would be accurate.)

There is a substantial selection available in their eShop, but at present, there isn’t a London stockist, but if you find yourself in ~gay Paree~ you can pick yourself up a lil somethin’ somethin’ at French favourite, Colette.

The eShop also features rare art books from Dash Snow, Dan Colen and Terry Richardson amongst others, band tees, and curios like an actual helmet off of actual Vietnam and US prison tupperware.

You can get all of the above from their website.

DISCLAIMER: I wasn’t paid for this, if I was, they’d probably want their money back.
